Laurie Marr Wasmund’s book, TO WALK HUMBLY, was a finalist for a 79th Annual Colorado Authors League Writing Award in Mainstream/Literary Fiction. The Colorado Authors League was founded as an organization of professional writers. Each spring since 1942, CAL recognizes multiple works across several different categories and genres and one author with a Lifetime Achievement Award. More than 90 CAL members submitted published works for consideration in this year's writing awards. TO WALK HUMBLY is the third book of Laurie Marr Wasmund’s White Winter Trilogy, which chronicles the lives of three Irish-Americans during the early 1920s in Denver, when the Ku Klux Klan governed the state of Colorado. The first two books of the Trilogy, TO DO JUSTICE and TO LOVE KINDNESS, follow the same characters through America’s involvement in World War I. Celibate: A Memoir by Maria Giura won First Place in the Independent Press Award for Religion NonFiction. It was also reviewed by Publisher’s Weekly, which called “the meat of this work—Giura’s struggles with her relationship with God— complex and emotionally wrought.” And Emily Webber of Mom Egg Review writes “The most powerful writing on faith that I’ve encountered, Celibate simultaneously touches on many different aspects of the human spirit with themes that readers, regardless of religious background, will relate to and find compelling.” Maria will read from Celibate at the Inner Loop Reading Series (Washington, DC) on August 18, 7 pm and is a featured reader at I AM Books (Boston) on September 26, 6:30 pm.
