Award-winning CIPA member author Sunny Weber has released her newest book, The Dog at the Gate: How a Throwaway Dog Becomes Special. In this middle-grade fiction story a rejected Australian Shepherd named Max narrates his own coming-of-age autobiography.
Puppy Max doesn’t have the easiest start in life. After being taken from his mother, he faces hunger, living alone outside, a vicious dog next door, and even menacing raccoons. Just when he thinks it can’t get any worse, he’s abandoned at a shelter.
Two-year-old Max is rescued and then fostered in a real home with Miles, a benevolent fellow Aussie, cantankerous, bossy little Muffin, three mysterious cats, two chirping parakeets, and their patient Mistress. Can a dog like Max go from years without a bath to unconditional love and acceptance? Or will his new family abandon him again?
Max is never sure—until the ultimate challenge shakes his world.
Excerpt from Chapter 1, Waves and Frequencies by Karyn Estela – Sparks ricocheted between the back hooves of thirteen winged horses gathering in V-formation at the Bifrost. Their riders were the Valkyrie, the battle maidens of Odin. Freya, leader of the Valkyrie, gave the signal for them to canter forward into the energy field known as the Rainbow Bridge of Valhalla. Thunder echoed off the dense cloud clusters with each footfall of the horses’ forceful strides as they merged with a shower of prismatic lightning. Following Freya’s lead, the Valkyrie came to a synchronized halt in mid-air flight and gave their horses the cue to rear up in sequence three times, forming light-waves that humans call “Northern Lights.”
