From Laurel McHargue: I just enjoyed the most engaging and entertaining interview ever with Jerry Fabyanic on August 26th! His humor and generosity left me smiling the whole way home. Here’s a link to our visit with the interview podcast! You might want to clean out your closet (or sock drawer or clean your combs) while you listen because . . . did I mention how generous he was? Enjoy!
From Charles Freedom Long: International Writers Inspiring Change has awarded its “Most Inspiring Author Award,” 2017, to Charles Freedom Long!
The Girl Who Could Read Hearts by Sherry Maysonave received three new Book Awards:
- Gold Medal, Readers’ Favorite 2017 International Award, Christian Fiction
- Silver Medal, CIPA EVVY 2017 Award, Religion & Spirituality
- First Place, 2017 Texas Association of Authors Award, Inspirational
The book has been referred to as “an enthralling story reminiscent of C.S. Lewis and Madeleine L’Engle’s works”. Born gifted with a rare seventh sense ─ the ability to read human hearts coupled with keen intuition ─ the protagonist, Kate Kindrick, struggles against her superpowers while surrounded by skeptical, sometimes cruel, family members and their secrets. “Riveting… a page-turner.” “Highly recommended.” “Filled with dynamic, rich imagery.”
Sherry will be attending the Mountains & Plains Fall Discovery Show October 12-14th and doing book signings of The Girl Who Could Read Hearts in the CIPA Booth. She looks forward to meeting you there.
The CIPA-EVVY Award is the 4th book award for Vicissitudes of Fortune, Bob Siqveland, in the first 5 months since publication. The story is a sharp protest against racism, most relevant to our divided country and the current political landscape as viewed through 5 very diverse teenage soldiers in a Vietnam war that seemingly has no purpose.
Sadly, as a vet I recall an America where there had always been hope, but is now fear. Where there had been unity, there is growing separation-not just philosophically, but of class, religion, gender and political malevolence. Where there had been national integrity, there is dissimulation. And certainly, where America had once been the hypocenter of kindred spirit, it now spirals in a maelstrom of self-service and greed. Five kids; a Jew, a Black, a Japanese, a Native American and a white kid show that love can transcend this destructive trend.
