CIPA STAR Application
The CIPA STAR Program was created to showcase a select number of CIPA members and their titles to enhance their exposure and success while elevating CIPA's role in promoting and mentoring local authors and publishers. After the first group of CIPA "A" list titles have been selected and made available to Colorado
bookstores, the CIPA STAR Program Committee will continue to add to the list annually. The primary prerequisite for consideration is receipt of a CIPA EVVY Award. Below are the three avenues CIPA members can follow in order to be considered
for the program:
1) Evvy Award winners from the last three years can submit a statement of interest in participating in the CIPA STAR Program along with:Title of book Year Evvy Award was received and category of award Physical description of book Name of author and short synopsis of subject of book ISBN # and retail price.
-
ALL of the publisher's contact information
Submission of interest should be sent to
Doris Baker or PO Box
95, Palmer Lake, CO 80133. Members will be contacted when a copy of their book should be sent for review by the committee.
2) Submit your 2006/2007
copyrighted book for the 2007 EVVY Awards. Winners will then be able to
complete a CIPA STAR Application form to be considered by the CIPA STAR
Program Committee to participate in the program. Info on submitting titles
for the EVVY Awards will be on the CIPA web site, in the CIPA Signature newsletter and at CIPA Monthly meetings. Application forms for the CIPA STAR Program will be available at the 2006 CIPA EVVY Awards ceremony.
3) Those who have never entered their title(s) for an Evvy Award or are ineligible to submit their title for an Evvy Award due to copyright date may submit their title with the applicable fee for review by the CIPA Book Review Committee. The CIPA Book Review Committee will review titles submitted as part of their book review program and may also (the operative word here is "may") select several titles they deem especially noteworthy for consideration by the CIPA STAR Committee for the CIPA STAR Program. 4.) Only books submitted by CIPA members that have been published by that member publisher or member author will be considered for the Evvy Awards and the CIPA STAR Program. If the member publisher's imprint or the member author's name is not on the book, the book will not be eligible for an Evvy Award or the CIPA STAR Program.
In other words, if you are a CIPA member packager, designer, manufacturer's rep, or other publishing industry service provider you cannot enter a book published or written by someone else
on behalf of the author. Your authors would have to join CIPA to enter their book(s) unless their books have the publishing imprint of Outskirts Press printed on the cover or copyright page. If you are the publisher of a book, regardless who wrote it, then you can enter the book for an Evvy and the book can also be considered for the CIPA STAR Program.
As you know we have several CIPA members who publish books
by others. If that service provider puts their publishing imprint on the book, regardless of who actually pays for its publication, then they are the publisher as far as R.R. Bowker is concerned for Books in Print and as far as CIPA is concerned regarding awards. |
