The President’s Scholarship for CIPA College is granted each year to one or more students with promise and passion for the publishing business. CIPA College is an intensive three-day course held in Denver, Colorado, where top industry speakers present seminars at the highest level of professional expertise, targeted at independent publishers in Colorado. The student who wins this scholarship is entitled to attend any and all CIPA College sessions, and to join us at our annual EVVY Awards Banquet.

Qualifications for applicants are:
A Passion for Books and/or a Passion for Writing
GPA of “B” or above
Demonstrated talent in book conceptualization and creation
A vision for the future of publishing
Applicants are requested to write a one-page essay (not to exceed 300 words) on one of the following subjects:
A Vision for the Whole Book
This essay should include comments on a physical book such as authorship, editing, print quality, trim size, graphical elements, cover design, etc.
A Vision for the Future of the Publishing Industry
This essay should include comments on such matters as print versus electronic publishing, the impact of texting, social networks and e-mail on the written word, the importance of story as tool for understanding ourselves, private versus public storytelling, earning money at writing/publishing, etc.
Creative Writing
This essay should be an original piece: micro-short-story, or essay, reflecting a sense of style and written from a specific point of view.
In the absence of submitted essays, applicants may request an interview where they may present current class work to qualify for the scholarship.
This year’s deadline is March 16, 2009. The President will review submissions and/or conduct interviews with candidates. The winner will be notified March 23rd.
