Note Explanations:
(1) CHILDREN’S includes stories and picture books
(2)TRAVEL includes travel guides and travel essays
(3) LEGACY: Any independently published book that has not been entered in any prior EVVY competition AND has a publication date prior to 2009. Entry in this category is limited to one book per author.
(4) All workbooks MUST be entered in the WORKBOOK category. Each workbook may also be entered in up to 2 other categories if desired. (see Rules)
(5) Entries will be accepted in the MISCELLANEOUS category only if no other category applies and the required written justification is approved by the Awards Committee. The entry fee for disapproved entries will not be refunded.
1. The 2010 competition is open to any author or publisher who is a member in good standing of CIPA (Regular or Associate), the Arizona BPA or the New Mexico BA as verified by those organizations.
2. Entries must be independently or self-published, hard or soft cover (no e-books), be in English or Bilingual (English must be one language), and contain a minimum of 48 pages. (No minimum page requirement in CHILDREN’S category)
3. All submitted books must have an ISBN and a 2009 or 2010 publication date. (See Rule 12, LEGACY category, for exception)
4. A book may be submitted to an EVVY competition only once. Prior years’ entries will be disqualified. (See also Rule 14)
5. Each title may be entered in a maximum of three categories. A separate entry fee (see Rule 13) must be paid for EACH category entered.
6. CIPA reserves the right to add, eliminate or sub-divide categories based on number and types of entries received.
7. An entry must attain a minimum aggregate score of 70 to be eligible for award consideration..
8. All decisions made by the judges and/or CIPA are final.
9. CIPA is not responsible for any entry loss or damage.
10. All entries submitted become the property of CIPA and will not be returned. One book will be donated to the CIPA Education and Literacy Foundation’s Book Benefit Program.
11. The entry fee(s) must be paid prior to or simultaneously with entry submission. No entries will be accepted without payment of entry fee.
12. LEGACY category additional Rules: (1) entry limited to one book per AUTHOR; (2) the book was never entered in any prior EVVY Awards competition; (3) the book was published prior to 2009: (4) the entry was independently or self-published: (5) a LEGACY category entry may NOT be entered in any other category: (6) a sub-category/genre (for judging purposes) must be listed on the entry form: (7) LEGACY entries may also be entered in the Tech Awards competition.
13. ENTRY FEES:
$75.00 per title for the first category entered and $50.00 per title for each additional category entered.
MULTI-TITLE ENTRIES:
Publishers and/or authors submitting two or more titles will receive a handling cost rebate of $2.50 per title if all the required books are received as one delivery, all entry forms completed and properly attached, fees paid and a list of titles, categories entered, etc. are provided to the Awards Committee prior to or simultaneously with delivery of the entries.
14.Revised editions of prior EVVY entries will be accepted if the entry contains at least the following changes from the original edition: new ISBN, new cover, minimum of one third of the content is new and/or re-written.
15. Entries that have won other awards should be submitted with indications (i.e. stickers) of the award(s) removed.
16. While the Awards Committee has requested judges to return each score sheet with written comments, there is no guarantee that there will be compliance with this request.

A. If entering one category: Three (3) books (per title)
B. For each additional category entered: Two (2) books (per title)
OR
3. Bring the required books to the January 16, 2010 CIPA meeting or to any prior CIPA meeting.
4. A FULLY completed Entry Form must be taped to the inside front cover of EACH entered book.
5. Proof of payment of entry fees must accompany each entry.
6. All entries and additional material must be received by January 30, 2010, completed and in proper form.
7. Failure to comply with these requirements or rules may result in disqualification and forfeiture of Entry Fee.
1. Place Awards: A First, Second and Third place may be awarded in each category subject to: 1) the category receiving at least three (3) entries; 2) each winning entry attaining a minimum aggregate score of 70; and 3) final determination by the judges in their sole discretion considering total aggregate score, ranking in category and overall quality. The Awards Committee reserves the right to restrict the number ant types of awards in those categories receiving less than three (3) entries and/or having less than three (3) qualified entries. Duplicate Awards may be given in case of tie scores in any category.
2. Merit Book Awards: An entry receiving a minimum aggregate average score of 70, with at least 2 scores of 70 or higher with 1 score being 75 or higher and receiving the recommendation of the judges but not earning a place award may, in the sole discretion of the judges, be recognized as a Merit Book.
3. All Place and Merit Book winners are eligible to apply to the CIPA Star Program.
4. Entries earning award consideration will be notified by email in advance of the final presentations at the Awards dinner on March 27, 2010. This courtesy notification is a final eligibility confirmation and should not be deemed as a notification of winning.
