Hello everyone,

I just got back from the CIPA College in Denver. I attended all day on Friday and heard a great speaker, Tonya Evans-Walls, a lawyer from Philadelphia, who spoke on legal matters that matter to writers such as copyright registration, how much can you quote without permission, what laws should a writer be aware of if you write about real people and events, etc. Brian Jud, author of Beyond the Bookstore, also spoke about marketing your book to other sources beside the bookstore.

It was a good day and ended with the awards banquet in which two Western Slope CIPA writers and one publisher won awards.

Janet Go won first place in the travel category for her book Don't Miss the Boat: Traveling Through the Leisure Years in which she wrote about her and Perry McGinnis' adventures on a cruise around the world. I was the publisher of that book, so share in part of that award.

Carolyn Hansen won third place in the inspirational/self-help category for her book Finding Gifts in Depression based on her on battle through depression.

Please send your congratulations to Janet  at jgoco6@bresnan.net and Carolyn at ch_art@bresnan.net. They would really appreciate hearing from you.

Also, Patrice, our director, wanted me to pass on the following information.
